Intrapelvic internal ! xation of pelvic fractures

چکیده
Internal fi xation of the posterior ring in unstable pelvic fractures was introduced in the late 1980’s (1–3). On the other hand, indications of internal fi xation of the anterior ring have been variable and more conservative recommendations have been given (4–6). However, biomechanical studies have shown that best stability can be achieved by internal fi xation of both the posterior and the anterior part of the pelvic ring injuries (7). ! e fi rst report of internal fi xation of the entire ring was published in 1993 (8). Later on, open reduction and stabilization of the most unstable C type fractures have been more widely accepted fi rst in the recent years. On the other hand, the treatment of partially stable open book fractures as well as lateral compression type fractures seem to be controversial in most centres. Conservative bed rest and / or external fi xation are still accepted as primary choices in many units. Our policy has been to restore the anatomy operatively in both B and C type displaced pelvic fractures injuries at our department. Patients and methods

Intrapelvic migration of a guide pin during fixation of a hip fracture: who and what is to blame?
The authors report the case of a 61-year-old patient who underwent internal fixation with a dynamic hip screw for a stable intertrochanteric fracture of the right hip. The immediate postoperative radiograph showed complete intrapelvic migration of the threaded guide pin, which has gone unnoticed during operation. The pin was removed by laparotomy, and was found to have damaged no pelvic viscera...
متن کاملThe functional outcome of surgically treated unstable pelvic ring fractures by open reduction, internal fixation
Abstract Background: Unstable Pelvic fracture, a result of high energy antero-posterior compression injury, has been managed based on internal fixation and open reduction. The mode of fixation in Unstable Pelvic fracture has, however, been a subject of controversy and some authors have proposed a need to address the issue of partial breach of the pelvic ring elements in these injuries. This st...
متن کاملEpidemiology and outcome of complex pelvic injury.
Soft tissue injuries associated with pelvic fractures are often responsible for compromised haemodynamics. The objective of this study was to clarify what parameters determine patient outcome. In a cohort study, all patients with a pelvic fracture treated between 1991 and 2001 at a Level I trauma center were analysed for associated intrapelvic injuries, classification, severity of trauma, type ...
متن کاملClinical Results of Percutaneous Fixation of Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures: A Minimally Invasive Internal Fixation Technique
Background: The pelvic ring fractures (PRF) and acetabular fractures (AF) are among the major orthopedic injuriesassociated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Open surgical stabilization is the standard treatment for themajority of these complications. Percutaneous minimally invasive surgical stabilization of the fractures has become anaccepted treatment method for th...
متن کاملRigid internal fixation of zygoma fractures: A comparison of two-point and three-point fixation
Background: Displaced fractures of the zygomatic bone can result in signi›cant functional and aesthetic sequelae. Therefore the treatment must achieve adequate and stable reduction at fracture sites so as to restore the complex multidimensional relationship of the zygoma to the surrounding craniofacial skeleton. Many experimental biophysical studies have compared stability of zygoma after one, ...
